BODY LANGUAGE is a dance/movement-based class for ACTORS regardless of age and physical experience. The class is designed to tell stories and drive the narrative through choreography, with or without dialogue or lyrics by focussing on:
-
Character
-
Emotion
-
Story
Students are encouraged to think like actors first and foremost, establishing an emotional context that supports WHY they’re doing WHAT they’re doing. Combined with the three elements above, each piece of chosen repertoire draws inspiration from theatrical (musical or play) and non-theatrical (book or movie) work.
Class breakdown:
-
Brief warm up
-
Repertoire breakdown including but not limited to solos, duets, & group pieces
-
Character discussion
-
Listen to music
-
Learn repertoire, which may include improvisation & individual creativity
-
Execution & discussion
BODY LANGUAGE enables actors to enhance storytelling through emotional movement by creating seamless transitions between dialogue and dance.
Many choreographers and movement directors currently working on stage, tv, and film are relying on movement to drive the narrative (see examples below.) BODY LANGUAGE prepares actors to take advantage of the demand immediately upon entering the profession.
